FoGC Recharge 15K/8K Trail Run

Come run where the dinosaurs once roamed–join us for our 3rd annual fundraiser trail run! Your entry fee includes two amazing well-marked courses with plenty of water and electrolytes, a one-year membership to the Friends of Government Canyon (please note: this membership DOES NOT get you free entry into the Natural Area–check our membership page for more information), race shirt, delicious nutritious food/refreshments after the race, and cool schwag and coupons from our sponsors.

Due to possible impact of the natural area, the race is limited to the first 300 participants. In the event of rain/trail closures the race will be held on the roads of GCSNA.  Sign up today this race will sell out!

15K runs through the Backcountry trails. A challenging and scenic course with lots of hills and rocks.
8K runs through the Frontcountry trails. An easy to moderate course that is great for beginners and walkers.

This race is chip timed. Top overall & masters awards in each race, along with age group awards 3-deep in 10 year increments (19 & under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 & above).

Race Location
Government Canyon State Natural Area, 12861 Galm Road, San Antonio, TX 78254

Race Day Parking
Runners MUST park at Folks Middle School located at 9855 Swayback Ranch Road approximately 1 mile from the natural area entrance ( MAP). Buses will shuttle runners to and from Government Canyon from 6:15am – 11:30am. You will be dropped off at the picnic pavilion near the Visitor’s Center where timing chips and race day packet pickup/registration is located. ONLY registered runners are able to ride the buses. Family and friends may park at the Canyon, but must pay the $6 entry fee. Parking is very limited at the natural area and we apologize for any inconvenience. Please arrive at least one hour prior to the start to get your chip and to the start line on time. (Those with a valid TPWD State Park Pass may park at the Canyon)

Camping Available

2015 Recharge Trail Run Recap
Our second Recharge Run is in the books!  We had to reschedule due to rain and trail closures to November 14th, but that didn’t dampen the spirits of the 215 runners who crossed the finish line or keep us from raising $4700!  Our 15K overall winners were Dave Andrews (1:08:11) and Kitty Henricksen (1:18:13).  15K Masters were Roger Lopez (1:12:00) and Lisa Keough (1:39:53).  Our 8K overall winners were Adam Soto (35:22) and Brandy Medina (40:03).  8K Masters were Dale Londos (35:37) and Iliana Pena (50:10).

2014 Recharge Trail Run Recap
Our first inaugural Recharge Trail Run was a huge success! Thank you to everyone who participated! It was a beautiful day, perfect for trail running. We had 187 folks register for the run, and 160 crossed the finish line. Our 15K overalls were David Andrews (1:07:26) and Heather Welsch (1:11:54). 15K Masters went to Ty Tracy (1:12:44), and Heidi Smith (1:24:33). 8K Overall winners were Treye Denton (34:56), and Marissa Villareal (41:57). 8K Masters were Travis Frampton (41:11), and Jenny Mendoza (52:42). Congrats to all who finished the race!


We raised $3500 that will go back to educational and recreational programs, and will also assist with staff project needs and equipment to name a few.
